ATTENTION WIREHAND WIRELESS CUSTOMERS: Make sure your home equipment has been upgraded to access the new LTE compatible network! WCEC will begin decommissioning the older network equipment on our towers at the end of September. You must have the new equipment to connect to Wirehand Wireless once this is complete. To schedule an upgrade appointment, call 979-543-6271. Learn more here.

BRINGING BROADBAND TO YOU!
Wharton County Electric Cooperative began offering Wirehand Wireless Internet service in 2006 to meet the need for broadband service in rural areas. The Wirehand network currently serves over 500 users in coverage areas located within 5-10 miles of our network towers. A site inspection is required before new installation can take place. WCEC also offers Exede Satellite Internet for those users who are outside the Wirehand coverage areas.

WIREHAND WIRELESS

Wirehand Wireless Internet is a Fixed Wireless system that requires line of sight or near-line of sight to a WCEC Wirehand Wireless tower. Towers are located in El Campo, Taiton, Hillje, Danevang and Nada. In July of 2017, TelRad LTE equipment was installed on the El Campo Wirehand tower initiating an upgrade that now allows for LTE speed and reliability to our users.

No phone line is required with this service. This service allows for the connection to be networked with other computers through the use of a router or switch (not provided or supported). Plans start at just $39.95.

EXEDE SATELLITE

If you are unable to obtain line of sight for Wirehand Wireless, WCEC offers 2-way satellite broadband Internet provided by Exede. This service can be installed anywhere there is an open view to the south. No phone line is required with this service. This service allows for the connection to be networked with other computers through the use of a router or switch (not provided or supported). Plans start at just $50.
